About Us:

Old Warden History & Heritage Society was formed in January 2016, after several years operating as an informal social history group. The society now has 40 members from within the parish and further afield. We are members of the Bedfordshire Local History Association (BLHA). In early 2017 we were successful in securing a major grant from Greensand Country / Heritage Lottery Fund to enable us to carry out a geophysical survey at the site of Warden Abbey.

Our Aims:

  • To promote interest in, and knowledge of the history of Old Warden and surrounding area, including buildings, landscape, people & community and items of historical interest.

  • To support the preservation and security of items of historic interest.

  • To assist the local community and local community groups in carrying out historical projects.

What we offer:

The society currently provides events, displays, talks, site visits and newsletters to interest for those curious about Old Warden’s past. We also undertake research into aspects of local history. We are happy to assist those researching their family history and welcome enquiries from descendants of people who lived in the parish. We love to hear from people with stories to tell about Old Warden, or who may have images, documents or artefacts to share.

Membership:

The initial membership fee is £10. From time to time we will charge a nominal entry fee to OWHHS events.
